3 Idiots Professor Dies Weeks Before Birthday

Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, remembered by many for his role as a professor in 3 Idiots, has died at the age of 90. His family said he suffered heart failure on 18 August, only weeks before his 91st birthday.

His daughter, Anuradha Paraskar, confirmed that he collapsed at home and was later admitted to Jupiter Hospital in Thane. Doctors attempted treatment but were unable to revive him, and he passed away peacefully in the evening.

Potdar’s acting career spanned more than four decades, during which he appeared in over 125 films and numerous television shows. Known for his ability to adapt to both mainstream and parallel cinema, he became one of Bollywood’s most respected character actors.

His film credits included Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Vaastav, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Dabangg 2. On television, he featured in series such as Bharat Ek Khoj, Pradhan Mantri and Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo.

Despite a vast body of work, he is best remembered for his light-hearted role in 3 Idiots (2009), where his lines became popular with younger audiences and internet culture.
