KP Introduces Lab to Combat Donkey Meat Sale
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a modern testing lab to combat the illegal sale of donkey meat disguised as halal food. Officials said the new facility, run by the KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, uses advanced equipment to verify the origin and quality of meat within seconds.
This step comes in response to growing concerns about meat fraud and food safety in the province. The laboratory, which also checks milk, water, spices, and drinks, can determine if meat samples come from a donkey, buffalo, or cow.
Officials highlighted the lab’s use of high-end tools such as FTIR, HPLC, and UHPLC systems—technology that meets international testing standards. These machines allow for rapid and accurate identification of substandard or non-halal products.

Authorities believe this development will boost public trust and support efforts to protect consumers from unsafe or mislabeled food items. The lab’s quick response time is expected to improve monitoring, especially in urban food markets.
