Internet Rates Rise, But Still Affordable, Says PTA
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has justified the latest rise in mobile internet package prices, attributing it to growing economic challenges and higher expenses for service providers.
According to PTA’s Director General of Commercial Affairs, Adil Umar Khalil, telecom operators are struggling with increasing operational costs, forcing them to adjust data tariffs.
He explained that maintaining infrastructure and upgrading networks have become significantly more expensive in recent months due to inflation and other financial pressures.

Khalil stressed that, despite the price adjustment, Pakistan’s mobile internet rates remain competitive compared to many other countries in the region. He pointed out that even after the hike, users in Pakistan continue to enjoy relatively affordable data services.
PTA officials believe that the sector could see better services in the near future. The authority has indicated that upcoming spectrum auctions and improved right-of-way policies will help strengthen network capacity and expand coverage. These steps, they said, may eventually stabilize pricing and improve user experience.
The telecom industry, which has faced mounting challenges including currency depreciation and rising energy costs, is under pressure to maintain quality services while dealing with financial strain.
