Authorities recovered two forged Aadhaar cards, a fake voter ID, a ration card, and a PAN card—all registered under different West Bengal addresses.
Shanta Paul reportedly entered India in 2023 and continued to live in hiding even after her visa expired. Investigators claim she obtained the fake documents through a broker network that specializes in helping foreigners blend in with locals.
Her arrest came during a routine document check when she failed to present a valid visa. A subsequent search revealed multiple Bangladeshi passports and additional personal identification cards in her possession.
The case has raised concerns about cross-border identity fraud and the growing use of social media influence to mask illegal residency in India.
