Case Filed Over Filming at Historic Wazir Khan Mosque

Lahore police have lodged a case against a model and a photographer accused of filming a video inside the historic Wazir Khan Mosque without obtaining official approval.

The First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Akbari Gate police station on the complaint of Muhammad Owais, an officer of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA).

The complaint named model Azbia Khan and photographer Zain Shah, accusing them of breaching the sanctity of the mosque by recording footage in “inappropriate attire”.

Officials said the incident took place on 13 August but came to light later, prompting action on 17 August. Owais explained that the authority moved swiftly once the matter was reported, insisting the move was necessary to safeguard the respect of religious sites.

Police sources acknowledged, however, that the complainant had not provided detailed contact information for the suspects and their identities were yet to be verified. They added that the FIR followed concerns raised by the mosque administration, which had expressed dissatisfaction over the recording.

Authorities are now working to track down those named in the complaint. The Secretary of Auqaf, Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari, confirmed that WCLA would pursue the matter further.

The controversy has drawn comparisons with a 2020 case involving actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed, who faced similar charges for shooting a music video at the same mosque.
