Chinese Firms Eye Satellite Internet Launch in Pakistan
Several Chinese technology firms have shown interest in offering satellite internet services in Pakistan, following the entry of U.S. company Starlink. In response, the government has moved to speed up the regulatory process needed to welcome these companies.
Sources have confirmed that the Pakistan Space Activity Regulatory Board (PSARB) recently submitted a comprehensive consultant report to authorities, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The report proposes a set of rules and licensing requirements for companies aiming to launch satellite-based internet in the country.

The PTA is currently reviewing the proposed draft. After completing its assessment, the authority is expected to share its feedback with PSARB to help finalise the regulatory framework.
Multiple state institutions are also involved in shaping the licensing rules. Officials have indicated that feedback from various departments is being gathered to ensure that the final policy is well-informed and practical.
Emphasis has been placed on creating a robust system rather than making quick decisions. Authorities have stressed the need to evaluate technical challenges before granting operating licenses.
Another key aspect under consideration is direct satellite-to-mobile connectivity, which could help improve communication in remote and underdeveloped areas.
