Diesel Drop Leads to Cheaper Intercity Travel in Punjab

The Punjab Transport Department has announced a five per cent cut in bus and rail fares following the recent decline in petroleum prices. Officials said the decision was taken to pass on relief to passengers and ensure transparency at bus terminals across the province.

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) directed all terminals to enforce the revised fares immediately and display updated lists for travellers. Diesel prices dropped by Rs12.84 per litre on Friday night, which prompted the adjustment in transport charges.

The revised fares cover major intercity routes. Travellers from Lahore to Sargodha will now pay Rs1,060, marking a Rs50 decrease.

Longer routes have also been affected. Passengers travelling from Lahore to Hyderabad will now pay Rs5,800 after a reduction of Rs300. Rail fares from Lahore to Karachi have been revised down by Rs320, bringing the new cost to Rs6,040.

Authorities said inspection teams are monitoring bus stands to ensure transporters comply with the new fare schedule. Officials stressed that the changes are effective immediately and aim to prevent overcharging.
