FBR rules out extension in tax return deadline

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has confirmed that the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2025 tax year will remain September 30 and will not be extended.

Officials stated that the filing covers the fiscal period between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. A simplified return form has been introduced for individuals and associations of persons to make the process easier.

According to the rules, anyone living in Pakistan for 183 days or more during the year must file a return. This applies to salaried workers, pensioners, and others with income from property, dividends, services, or bank profits.

The form also requires taxpayers to provide information about withholding taxes, deductions, tax credits, and any reductions they may be eligible for. In addition, details of bank accounts, property holdings, and personal assets must be declared.

Authorities have urged citizens not to wait until the last moment, warning that failure to comply could result in penalties.
