Floodwater Enters Inner Area of Historic Sikh Shrine
The historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Narowal, has been severely affected by flooding after the Ravi River overflowed, following the release of excess water from an Indian dam.
Reports indicate that the revered Sikh shrine, believed to be the final resting place of Baba Guru Nanak, is currently submerged under nearly 5–7 feet of water. Videos widely shared on social media show floodwater entering the premises, raising concerns among the Sikh community and local residents.
According to Indian media, an employee of the gurdwara said that water had also entered the inner sanctum, causing further alarm.

The rising water has sparked appeals from religious groups and residents, urging authorities to act quickly to protect the sacred site and prevent further damage.
The Kartarpur Corridor, which connects Sikh pilgrims from India to the shrine in Pakistan, has faced similar challenges before. In 2023, the corridor was closed temporarily for three days when the Ravi’s water level rose, but at that time the shrine itself remained unaffected.
