former Indian Cricketer Slams Stokes Over WTC Disregard
Dinesh Karthik has openly criticised England captain Ben Stokes for showing what he believes is a lack of seriousness towards the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
Karthik, speaking to UK media during the final Test match between India and England, said England’s captain appeared uninterested in the WTC format and used the points system as a reason to dismiss its importance. He argued that Stokes’ attitude may be part of the reason England have not reached a WTC final yet.
The former Indian wicketkeeper stressed that Indian players give the WTC significant importance, unlike England, who he claimed have primarily focused on Ashes preparations. He also questioned whether Stokes truly misunderstood the points table or was simply avoiding responsibility for England’s results.

Karthik shared his thoughts on the Test match in progress, stating that India had put up a respectable total and the pitch still offered something for bowlers. He believed the surface would present challenges on the final day, giving India a chance to square the series.
Noting England’s record in the WTC, Karthik highlighted that despite playing the most Tests under the current cycle, the team sits outside the top four. He implied that a lack of planning and seriousness might be affecting their position.
