Govt Bans Teachers from Private Tutoring During Hours

The School Education Department has prohibited government teachers from teaching at private schools or coaching centres during official duty hours.

A notification confirming the decision has been issued, and authorities have warned that any violation will lead to disciplinary measures.

Officials said the step was taken after reports indicated that a large number of public school teachers were spending significant time in private institutions instead of focusing on their primary responsibilities.

According to sources, the department found that thousands of teachers had been ignoring existing rules and prioritising private teaching for financial gain. This practice, officials said, was affecting the quality of education in public schools, prompting stricter monitoring.

The department has announced that inspections and checks will now be carried out to ensure compliance. Teachers found engaged in private tutoring during school hours could face penalties, including suspension or other actions.

Officials stressed that the move aims to ensure that government school students receive proper attention and guidance. “The primary responsibility of these teachers is to their enrolled students, and this decision is to reinforce that commitment,” an official noted.
