The meeting was attended by Advisor Khurram Shehzad, CCP Chairman Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, Registrar Shehzad Hussain, Legal Advisor Hafiz Naeem, Director Cartel & Trade Abuse Salman Zafar, and other senior officials.

Dr Sidhu informed the minister that the CCP is preparing recommendations for the Sugar Sector Reform Committee.

He also highlighted factors behind past sugar crises in 2008-09, 2015-16, and 2019-20, and shared the commission’s findings on cartel practices.

The CCP noted that its 2021 ruling against the sugar cartel had been sent back by the Competition Appellate Tribunal for rehearing.

A plan has been drawn up to expedite the process.

Senator Aurangzeb assured full government backing for the CCP’s efforts, including court cases and institutional strengthening.

He stressed the need for strong competition laws to protect consumers, maintain market transparency, and support economic stability.

The meeting reviewed pending cases, discussed market stabilisation, and explored ways to strengthen CCP’s role in ensuring fair competition.
