Pakistan Confirms Two New Polio Cases Amid Fresh Campaign
Pakistan has reported two new polio cases, one each from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), bringing the nationwide tally to 21 in 2025. Officials said the fresh cases were detected in Lower Dir, Kohistan, and Badin.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) confirmed the development and urged parents to ensure their children complete the vaccination schedule. Health officials warned that delays in immunisation could leave children vulnerable to lifelong disability.
The NEOC announced that a new nationwide anti-polio campaign will begin on 1 September, targeting millions of children under the age of five.

According to officials, special focus will be placed on high-risk districts of KP and Sindh, where repeated outbreaks have hindered eradication efforts.
Earlier, the National Institute of Health had identified the virus in a 10-month-old child from Tank district, KP. That case had pushed the country’s tally to 18 before the latest two infections were confirmed.
Authorities acknowledged that the virus remains a serious threat due to gaps in coverage, especially in southern KP, where difficult terrain and security issues complicate vaccination efforts. The NEOC said it is revising its strategy to strengthen logistics and improve campaign quality in vulnerable areas.
