Punjab Revamps Passport Zones for Better Service
Passport services in Punjab are undergoing a major administrative overhaul, according to Director General of Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi.
Qazi said the zones in the province had been reorganised to enhance efficiency and public access. Four sub-zones have been created under the Central and Southern Punjab regions.
Lahore and Gujranwala Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) have been grouped as sub-zones in Central Punjab, while Multan and Bahawalpur RPOs have been given the same status in the southern part of the province.

The DG said the restructuring aimed to reduce processing times and improve citizen services. He stressed that resources were being utilised to ensure the prompt issuance of passports.
The update comes as Pakistan’s passport ranked 96th in the Henley Passport Index 2025. The global list, compiled by Henley & Partners using International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, tracks the travel freedom of 199 passports to 227 destinations.
The report also highlighted a drop for the United States, which once held the top spot in 2014 but has now slipped to 10th, its lowest ranking in two decades.
