SpaceX Quietly Tests Starlink Sharing Model to Boost Access

SpaceX is reportedly piloting a new program under its Starlink banner that could lower the cost of satellite internet by letting multiple users connect to one shared terminal.

Known as Starlink Community, the initiative has not yet been officially announced, but key details have surfaced on Starlink’s website and in support pages intended for resellers.

The model allows several individuals to maintain their own accounts while sharing access through a single Starlink dish. Each user would still experience seamless internet service through their individual routers connected to a shared dish and switch setup.

A placeholder webpage for the Community plan lists a monthly subscription cost of $60—significantly lower than Starlink’s Residential Lite ($80) and Standard ($120) offerings.

This shared-access model appears aimed at communities where internet affordability and infrastructure remain major hurdles—such as apartment blocks, rural villages, or developing regions with limited broadband options.

Another variant called Community Hotspot is also mentioned, which could allow one-time or limited access to a single device, though SpaceX has yet to reveal details.

The concept was brought to light by University of Victoria professor Jianping Pan, who suggested that initial rollouts could happen in countries outside the U.S. and Canada. Earlier communications, including emails in Portuguese sent to global resellers, hinted at the new approach.

Support pages encourage resellers to onboard subscribers and earn commissions while helping expand affordable internet in their regions.
