Spotify Adds Another Feature to Boost Social Experience
Spotify has introduced a new direct messaging option within its app, aiming to make music sharing more interactive and social.
The tool allows users to send one-to-one messages to contacts they have already engaged with on the platform. These interactions could include co-creating playlists, joining Blend or Jam sessions, or being part of the same Family or Duo plan.
Users can start a conversation only after mutual activity or approval, ensuring some level of familiarity.

Previously, Spotify links could only be shared on other platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and TikTok. Now, if someone receives a Spotify link through these apps, they can open it and accept a chat request. The platform also supports sending invitation links to contacts directly.

To use the feature, users can tap their profile photo and navigate to the ‘Messages’ option. Conversations allow basic emoji reactions, and inappropriate content can be flagged.
Spotify clarified that messages are encrypted during storage and transfer but do not use end-to-end encryption, allowing moderation for policy violations.
The feature is currently available on mobile devices for users above 16 in selected Latin and South American countries. Expansion to the United States, Canada, Brazil, the EU, the UK, Australia and New Zealand is planned soon.
