Sugar Supply Improves but Prices Stay High in Lahore

Sugar availability in Lahore has begun to improve, but prices remain high in many neighbourhoods, the district administration said on Friday.

The official retail price has been fixed at Rs173 per kilogram, and major wholesale markets are largely following the rate.

However, in residential areas and small shops, sugar is still selling for between Rs190 and Rs200 per kilogram.

Officials reported that since July 25, more than 1,900 tonnes of sugar have been supplied to the city’s markets, with another 1,700 tonnes expected to arrive soon.

The Punjab government has stepped up its crackdown on profiteering. Across the province, over 30,000 enforcement actions have been taken, leading to the arrest of 2,092 people and the registration of 361 cases for violating price control rules.

Authorities said strict monitoring would continue to ensure fair pricing and protect consumers from exploitation.
