Token System Ends as Punjab Shifts to T-Card Travel

The Punjab government has taken a major step towards digitising public transport by introducing the T-Card, a smart travel card that will replace traditional tokens used on Metrobus and Orange Line services.

According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA), the move is part of a broader effort under the e-Transit initiative, aiming to modernise the way people travel across the province.

The T-Card will offer commuters a single, cashless payment solution for both the Metrobus and Orange Line trains.

Authorities believe the new system will significantly reduce wait times, eliminate long queues, and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.

The card can be obtained through multiple channels, including the e-Transit website, mobile app, and a dedicated helpline (1762). Officials say this flexibility will make the switch easier for daily travellers.

The traditional token and RFID systems currently in use will be phased out gradually. The transition will be supported by awareness campaigns to ensure commuters understand how to use the T-Card.
