Amina Shigri, a young mountaineer from Gilgit-Baltistan, has added another milestone to her climbing journey by successfully scaling the 7,027-meter Spantik Peak, also known as Golden Peak. The mountain lies in the Spantik-Sosbun subrange of the Karakoram and is located in Shigar district.

The achievement is being hailed as a proud moment for the region, highlighting the courage, determination, and resilience of the young climber. Amina had already made history in 2021 when, at the age of 15, she climbed the 6,400-meter Khusar Gang Peak along with her father and brother.

Spantik Peak, also known as the “Golden Peak” due to its sunlit appearance, has long been a challenge for mountaineers. Its first recorded successful expedition was by American climbers Fanny and William Bullock-Workman in 1899, which at that time set a women’s altitude record.

Amina has now set her sights even higher. She has expressed her ambition to plant the Pakistani flag on K2, the world’s second-highest peak, in the near future.

Her growing list of achievements has inspired many young Pakistanis, especially women, to explore adventure sports that have often been dominated by men.
